Which Table Represents A Function

IDENTIFYING FUNCTIONS FROM TABLES

A function assigns simply output to each input. The value that is put into a function is the input. The result is the output.

Relationships between input values and output values can too be represented using tables. The values in the first cavalcade are the input values. The values in the second cavalcade are the output values. The relationship represents a function if each input value is paired with just one output value.

Example 1 :

Determine whether the relationship given in the table is a function.

Solution :

Since each input value is paired with simply 1 output value, the human relationship given in the in a higher place table is a part.

Instance 2 :

Determine whether the relationship given in the table is a function.

Solution :

Since 2 is paired with more than one output value (both 20 and twoscore), the relationship given in the above table is not a function.

Example three :

Determine whether the relationship given in the table is a function.

Solution :

Since each input value is paired with only one output value, the relationship given in the above table is a part.

Note :

In the above table, b and c take the same output value. All the same, b has only i output value y and c as well has only one output value y. Moreover, no input value has more than one output value.

Example 4 :

Determine whether the relationship given in the table is a role.

Solution :

Since each input value is paired with simply i output value, the human relationship given in the higher up table is a part.

Case 5 :

Determine whether the human relationship given in the tabular array is a part.

Solution :

Since the input value iii is paired with more than one output value, the human relationship given in the above table is not a role.

Example half dozen :

Decide whether the relationship given in the table is a office.

Co-ordinate to the rule of the function, in that location must be an output value for each input value. Since in that location is no output value for the input value "c", the relationship given in the to a higher place table is not a role.

Example 7 :

Determine whether the relationship given in the tabular array is a part.

Solution :

Since each input value is paired with only one output value, the relationship given in the above tabular array is a function.

Example 8 :

Is it possible for a part to accept more than than one input value but but ane output value ? Provide an illustration to support your answer.

Solution :

Yes, a function can perchance take more than 1 input value, but only one output value.

Analogy :

In the to a higher place tabular array, at that place are five input values values (1, ii, 3, 4 and five). But there is just i out put value vi.

According to the rule, each input value must have just one output value and no input value should take more than one output value.

In the above tabular array, input value 1 has but one output value six. The same has happened to the other input values ii, three, 4 and 5 as well. No input value has more i out put value.

Hence, the human relationship given in the above table is a function.
